Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Fast and easy – Ready in under 20 minutes.
  • Full of flavor – Coated in a homemade Cajun spice mix.
  • Versatile – Perfect as a main dish, appetizer, or even a protein-packed salad topper.

Ingredients

For the Cajun Seasoning:

  • 1 tablespoon mild paprika
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • ¾ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon brown sugar
  • ½ to ¾ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
  • ¼ teaspoon cracked black pepper

For the Steak:

  • 23 oz (650 g) steak, cut into 2-inch cubes (Sirloin, Ribeye, Rump, New York Strip, or Porterhouse)
  • 1–2 tablespoons canola oil, divided
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

Instructions

1. Season the Steak

In a shallow bowl, combine all the Cajun seasoning ingredients. Add the steak cubes and toss until evenly coated. Set aside while you heat the skillet.

2. Sear the Steak Bites

Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a heavy skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the steak bites in a single layer—do this in batches to avoid overcrowding. Sear for 2–3 minutes per side, or until a crisp, golden crust forms. Remove and set aside on a plate.

3. Make the Garlic Butter

Reduce the heat to medium. Add butter to the same skillet and stir until melted, scraping up any browned bits. Add the chopped garlic and sauté for 30 seconds, just until fragrant.

4. Toss and Serve

Remove the skillet from the heat. Return the steak bites to the pan and toss them in the garlic butter until fully coated. Serve immediately with your favorite sides, like mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or warm crusty bread.

Optional Add-In: Buttery Mushrooms

To make this dish even more indulgent, toss sliced mushrooms into the pan after cooking the steak. Let them brown undisturbed for 2–3 minutes before stirring. Cook until tender, then serve with the steak bites.

Tips for Perfect Steak Bites

  • Use a hot skillet – High heat is key to achieving a great sear.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan – Cook in batches to prevent steaming.
  • Let the steak rest briefly – Tent loosely with foil while finishing the butter sauce.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat quickly in a hot skillet with a touch of butter to maintain tenderness.
