Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (refrigerated or homemade)
  • 300 g minced meat (beef or a mixture of beef and other meats)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped or crushed
  • 100 g grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional spices: paprika, oregano, or cumin

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Filling

  • In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until golden and fragrant.
  • Stir in the minced meat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Season with salt, pepper, and any optional spices.
  • Cook until the meat is fully browned and all moisture has evaporated.
  • Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely.

2. Prepare the Pastry

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  • Spread the cooled meat mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a 1–2 cm border around the edges.
  • Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly over the meat.

3. Roll and Slice

  • Carefully roll the pastry from one of the long edges into a tight cylinder.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into slices about 2–3 cm thick.
  • Place each roll on the prepared baking tray with the cut side facing up.

4. Bake

  • Brush the tops of the rolls with beaten egg.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

5. Serve

  • Serve the rolls warm or hot.
  • Pair with your favorite dipping sauces like garlic mayonnaise, yogurt sauce, or classic ketchup.

Tips & Variations:

  • Add chopped spinach, mushrooms, or bell peppers to the filling for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • For a crispier, more savory topping, try grated Parmesan instead of soft cheese.
  • These rolls can be assembled ahead of time, frozen raw, and baked directly from the freezer—just add a few minutes to the baking time.
