Ingredients
For the Bolognese Sauce:
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (14 oz) can diced tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- ½ cup beef broth (or red wine)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, balances acidity)
- 8 oz spaghetti, cooked separately
Instructions
Step 1: Brown the Beef
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with onion and garlic until browned.
- Drain excess fat to prevent a greasy sauce.
Step 2: Add to Slow Cooker
- Transfer the browned beef mixture to the slow cooker.
Step 3: Mix in Sauces & Seasonings
- Add crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, broth (or wine), Worcestershire sauce, and sugar.
- Stir well to combine.
Step 4: Cook Low & Slow
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours.
- Stir occasionally if possible, but it’s not required.
Step 5: Serve
- Cook spaghetti separately according to package instructions.
- Serve the slow-cooked Bolognese sauce over the spaghetti.
- Optional: Top with grated Parmesan cheese or fresh basil.
Tips for Success
- For extra depth of flavor, sauté the tomato paste with the beef before adding it to the slow cooker.
- If the sauce is too thick, add a little more broth or water until desired consistency is reached.
- Make it ahead – The sauce tastes even better the next day and can be frozen for up to 3 months.
Enjoy this Slow Cooker Spaghetti Bolognese as a warm and comforting meal that’s simple, delicious, and packed with flavor!
