Ingredients
For the Mince:
- 500g minced beef or lamb
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup frozen or fresh peas
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups beef or vegetable stock
- 1 tablespoon olive oil

- 1 kg potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 50g unsalted butter
- 100ml milk or cream
- Salt to taste
Instructions
1. Make the Mash:
- Place the potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender (about 15-20 minutes).
- Drain and mash the potatoes with butter and milk until smooth and creamy. Adjust salt to taste. Cover and set aside.
2. Cook the Mince:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Add the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Sauté for 5 minutes until softened.
- Add the minced meat and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.
- Stir in the tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce, ensuring the mince is evenly coated.
- Pour in the stock, reduce the heat, and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the peas during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
