  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups beef or vegetable stock
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Mash:

  • 1 kg potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 50g unsalted butter
  • 100ml milk or cream

Instructions

1. Make the Mash:

  1. Place the potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender (about 15-20 minutes).
  2. Drain and mash the potatoes with butter and milk until smooth and creamy. Adjust salt to taste. Cover and set aside.

2. Cook the Mince:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Add the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Sauté for 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Add the minced meat and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce, ensuring the mince is evenly coated.
  4. Pour in the stock, reduce the heat, and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the peas during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

3. Serve:

  • Plate a generous portion of creamy mashed potatoes. Top with the rich mince mixture or serve it on the side. Enjoy your homemade comfort food!
