Stuffed Seafood Bread Bowl

An indulgent appetizer or decadent main – packed with creamy shrimp and crab filling baked inside a golden sourdough bread bowl.


Ingredients

For the Bread Bowl:

  • 1 large round sourdough bread loaf (for hollowing)

For the Filling:

  • ½ pound cooked shrimp, chopped
  • ½ pound lump crab meat
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

1. Prepare the Bread Bowl

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Slice the top off the sourdough loaf and hollow out the inside, leaving a 1-inch shell.
    Tip: Save the top to use as a lid or for dipping.
  • Place the bread bowl on a baking sheet and set aside.

2. Make the Seafood Filling

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine chopped shrimp, crab meat, mozzarella, cream cheese, mayonnaise, green onions, garlic, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, and lemon juice.
  • Stir until the mixture is evenly blended and creamy.

3. Stuff the Bread Bowl

  • Fill the hollowed-out bread bowl with the seafood mixture, pressing down gently to pack it evenly.

4. Bake

  • Cover the bread bowl loosely with foil.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, until hot and bubbly.
  • Remove foil during the last 5 minutes for a golden, lightly crisp top.

5. Serve

  • Let cool slightly before serving.
  • Place the saved top back on or slice into wedges.
  • Serve with the reserved bread pieces, crackers, or fresh vegetable sticks for dipping.
