Ingredients
- 1 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt
- 1 cup self-rising flour
(or make your own by combining 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1½ teaspoons baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon salt) - Everything bagel seasoning, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking. - Make the dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt and self-rising flour. Stir with a spatula or wooden spoon until a sticky dough forms. - Knead the dough
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 4–5 minutes, until the dough is smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky. Add a sprinkle of flour if needed. - Shape the bagels
Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then use your fingers to poke a hole through the center, gently stretching to form a bagel shape. - Optional: Boil the bagels
For a chewier texture, bring a pot of water to a gentle boil. Carefully add the bagels, boiling each one for 1–2 minutes per side. Use a slotted spoon to remove and place on the prepared baking sheet. - Season the bagels
Sprinkle the tops generously with everything bagel seasoning. You can also press the seasoning lightly into the dough to help it stick. - Bake
Place the bagels in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. They should sound hollow when tapped. - Cool and serve
Transfer the bagels to a wire rack and let them cool for a few minutes. Enjoy warm or at room temperature, plain or with your favorite spread.
Tips & Variations:
- Swap everything seasoning for sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or a cinnamon-sugar blend for sweet bagels.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for longer shelf life.
