Chinese Beef and Onion Stir-Fry

Ingredients
For the Stir-Fry:
- 1 pound (450g) beef (such as flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: sliced green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and cornstarch. Add the sliced beef, toss to coat, and let marinate for at least 15 minutes. - Cook the Beef
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned and cooked through (about 3-4 minutes). Transfer to a plate and set aside. - Cook the Onion and Garlic
In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened and lightly browned (about 5 minutes). Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute. - Combine and Finish
Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir to combine with the onion and garlic mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste. - Serve
Garnish with sliced green onions (if using) and serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.
