Chinese Beef and Onion Stir-Fry

Chinese Beef and Onion Stir-Fry

A quick and flavorful stir-fry featuring tender beef, sweet onions, and a savory sauce. Perfect for a weeknight dinner served over steamed rice or noodles.

Ingredients

For the Stir-Fry:

  • 1 pound (450g) beef (such as flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and cornstarch. Add the sliced beef, toss to coat, and let marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned and cooked through (about 3-4 minutes). Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  3. Cook the Onion and Garlic
In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened and lightly browned (about 5 minutes). Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Combine and Finish
Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir to combine with the onion and garlic mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve
Garnish with sliced green onions (if using) and serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.
